As an advisory panel to the City Council, CPAC focuses on evaluating police protocols, training, investigations, and community outreach programs. Key responsibilities include enhancing public awareness of complaint processes, advising leadership on operational improvements, and facilitating dialogue between law enforcement and citizens to strengthen mutual understanding.

Candidates must reside in Tacoma, avoid concurrent elected roles, and not hold active TPD positions or familial ties to current officers.
