Join Tacoma's Community Police Advisory Committee – Shape Local Policing Policies
The City of Tacoma is inviting qualified residents to join the Community Police Advisory Committee (CPAC), representing Council Districts 1, 4, and 5, a youth representative (ages 16-18), plus two at-large members. This advisory body offers critical input on police department policies and community engagement efforts.
As an advisory panel to the City Council, CPAC focuses on evaluating police protocols, training, investigations, and community outreach programs. Key responsibilities include enhancing public awareness of complaint processes, advising leadership on operational improvements, and facilitating dialogue between law enforcement and citizens to strengthen mutual understanding.
- Assess police procedures and training frameworks requested by municipal authorities
- Address public feedback regarding policy concerns through structured reviews
- Guide decision-makers on community-oriented policing approaches
- Promote collaborative problem-solving around public safety challenges
- Organize forums discussing service delivery and safety initiatives
Candidates must reside in Tacoma, avoid concurrent elected roles, and not hold active TPD positions or familial ties to current officers. The city prioritizes diversity, encouraging participation from underrepresented groups including BIPOC communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, seniors, youth, and immigrant populations.
Newly appointed members will complete mandatory training modules covering open government practices and public records compliance within their first 90 days of service. Applications require submission to the City Clerk’s Office by noon on October 13, 2026, via the official portal link provided.
For application materials or clarifications regarding accessibility accommodations, contact Elizabeth Wing at servetacoma@[SITEURL] or call (253) 591-5178. Additional civic engagement opportunities include the LEAP Advisory Committee and Tacoma Creates Advisory Board, both accepting applications for upcoming cycles.
