By Olivia Hensley |

Tonight marked the official inauguration of Anders Ibsen as Tacoma's Mayor, ushering in a new era of leadership and civic ambition. The ceremony celebrated his commitment to tangible progress, enhanced municipal services, and elevated living standards for all city inhabitants.

Looking ahead to 2026, Mayor Ibsen's agenda prioritizes constructing a secure, well-coordinated public safety framework, boosting affordable housing initiatives, implementing a unified approach to homelessness, fostering sustainable economic expansion through strategic infrastructure investments, and cultivating a transparent, high-impact municipal workforce.

"The trust placed in me by Tacoma residents is both humbling and motivating," shared Mayor Ibsen. "My administration will concentrate on results-oriented strategies, informed decision-making, and consistent service delivery that directly benefits our community."

Collaboration remains central to the Mayor's philosophy, emphasizing partnerships among council members, municipal employees, and regional stakeholders to advance priority initiatives effectively.

"While challenges lie ahead, achievable milestones await if we maintain focus, leverage data, and embrace collective effort," stated Mayor Ibsen. "Our shared dedication will produce visible improvements for both residents and local enterprises."

Before assuming office, Mayor Ibsen gained valuable governance experience at age 22 on the Pierce Conservation District Board, later serving two terms on the Tacoma City Council (District 1, 2012-2019). His tenure included securing public safety resources, enhancing fiscal openness, championing paid leave policies, expanding digital access, promoting clean transportation incentives, and establishing the Tacoma Anchor Network to bolster local economic vitality.
