Lincoln Avenue Bridge Closure for Asphalt Repairs in Tacoma

By Andrew Adams |

The City of Tacoma Public Works Department will temporarily shut down a portion of Lincoln Avenue, including the Lincoln Avenue Bridge, starting Saturday, April 4, 2026, to perform extensive asphalt repairs. The affected area extends from Portland Avenue to Marc Avenue, with operations running from 6 a.m. until roughly 6 p.m.

Funded by the $325 million Tacoma Streets Initiative—a voter-approved ten-year project launched in November 2015—the work addresses vital infrastructure upgrades. The initiative's levy concluded on December 31, 2026. The project leverages the initiative’s allocated resources to ensure community safety and road longevity. Tacoma Streets Initiative.

During operational hours, the Lincoln Avenue Bridge will be entirely inaccessible to motor vehicles, with designated detours established to guide traffic flow. Local enterprises along the route will remain accessible despite the temporary disruptions.

Drivers heading toward destinations near the construction site should approach via Portland Avenue or the Port of Tacoma Road, depending on their position relative to the Puyallup River. These alternate paths will help maintain connectivity during the project.

This marks the initial stage of a two-day operation. A subsequent phase of repairs is planned for another Saturday, with official dates communicated later once confirmed.

Asphalt installation depends on favorable weather conditions, making the schedule subject to change. Updates regarding timing or adjustments will appear on municipal websites, social channels, and posted notices beforehand.
