Join Tacoma's LEAP Advisory Committee: Shape Local Employment Opportunities
The Tacoma municipal leadership is actively recruiting candidates to occupy 17 seats on the city's Local Employment and Apprenticeship Training Program (LEAP) Advisory Panel. This 21-person body will include three delegates representing distinct community sectors:
- Local residents
- Businesses engaged with Tacoma
- Labor union affiliates
- Nonprofit groups
- Municipal employees
- Academic institutions
- Puyallup Tribe
Committee participants contribute diverse viewpoints and specialized knowledge to advance the city's mission of expanding training and job prospects through publicly funded infrastructure projects. Their efforts aim to create equitable access to skill-building resources and higher-paying career paths for residents.
As an advisory body, the LEAP Committee evaluates program effectiveness and proposes policy modifications, particularly concerning how LEAP participation quotas are calculated and adjusted over time.
Embracing inclusivity, the municipality strives to ensure its governing bodies mirror Tacoma's multicultural fabric. Prospective appointees encompass underrepresented groups including BIPOC communities, LGBTQ+ persons, people with disabilities, elders, young adults, newcomers, and displaced populations.
Newly appointed members must finish state-mandated transparency and records management courses within three months of assuming their duties.
Further program details can be accessed via the official LEAP page.
Submit applications to LEAP no later than May 26, 2026, using either the email portal at leap@[SITEURL] or the online form at LEAP Advisory Committee Voting Member Application. For inquiries, document requests, or supplemental submissions, contact Deborah Trevorrow at leap@[SITEURL] or call (253) 316-3057.
