I-705 Stadium Spur Ramp Upgrades Set for Late Summer 2026

By David Ramirez |

The Engineering Division of Tacoma's Public Works Department is set to begin essential maintenance on the I-705 Stadium Spur ramps beginning August 11, 2026. The project encompasses critical enhancements such as laying down a fresh cement concrete overlay on the ramp surfaces, swapping out aging expansion joints, and implementing additional safety upgrades to ensure reliable infrastructure. Access to these ramps from Schuster Parkway will be impacted throughout the work period.

Key components of the project include temporary shutdowns of specific on- and off-ramps. The northbound lanes—connecting I-705 directly to Stadium Way and Schuster Parkway—will face closure from mid-August through early September. Meanwhile, southbound access from Schuster Parkway to I-705 will be restricted from mid-September until late October. Each phase will target one direction at a time, allowing continuous traffic flow via alternate routes. Essential exits like A Street City Center and major arterial connections such as SR 509 North/South 21st Street and the Port of Tacoma will stay operational to minimize disruption.

Commuters should anticipate about five weeks without full access to one ramp segment at a time. Temporary detours will be clearly marked, and updated routing details will be accessible online via the official project page. For real-time updates, residents can visit [SITEURL]/project/Spur-Stadium-Ramps. Additional guidance and project status reports will be posted at [SITEURL]/Spur-Stadium-Ramps.

Weather conditions could influence the schedule, so contingency plans are in place for potential delays. On-site signage will keep drivers informed of any last-minute adjustments. Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience and allow extra travel time while navigating around construction zones.
