Join Tacoma's Human Services Commission: Shape Community Wellness and Equity

By Michael King |

The Tacoma City Council invites qualified candidates to apply for five open seats on the Human Services Commission: four regular member roles and one Emerging Leader position, targeting residents aged 16–24.

Responsible for evaluating grant proposals, assessing program applications, and advising on human services funding, the Commission supports council initiatives and staff efforts to enhance community well-being.

Composed of 15 dedicated members serving three-year terms—with the Emerging Leader holding a one-year commitment—the Commission drives impactful local change.

Committed to equity and inclusion, Tacoma seeks commission members reflecting the city’s diversity, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, seniors, youth, immigrants, refugees, and those who’ve engaged with human services programs like housing support, youth development, or mental health services.

New appointees must complete state-mandated training on public meetings and records compliance within 90 days of appointment.
