Honoring Tacoma's Community Champions: City of Destiny Awards 2026

By John Shaw |

The City of Tacoma’s Events and Recognitions Committee invites nominations for the esteemed City of Destiny Awards, a longstanding tribute to exceptional local volunteers since 1987. The submission deadline approaches on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

This year’s awards recognize outstanding achievements across multiple fields, such as Adult and Youth Leadership, Lifetime Service, Youth Engagement, Environmental Stewardship, Disability Support, Economic Growth, and Equity Initiatives.

Last year’s event celebrated 11 individuals and a group whose dedication significantly enhanced community well-being. The 2026 ceremony introduced the Inspire Tacoma award, honoring those driving municipal progress through civic involvement, entrepreneurship, charitable work, or advocacy. Notable recipients include Jason Kinlow and Isaiah Thomas in 2026. Over three decades, more than 340 contributors have received this honor for elevating Tacoma’s quality of life.

The City’s Events and Recognitions Committee (CERC), a council-selected panel of diverse community representatives, manages nominations and selections. Awardees will be formally recognized during the annual ceremony. Organizations seeking partnership opportunities can explore sponsorship options here.
